Concrete stamping is a great way to jazz up the surface of your concrete. Concrete stamping can transform an ordinary concrete driveway into a work of art by adding color, texture, patterns or embossing it to resemble other materials.
When people see concrete stamping, they often think the concrete was carved or etched after it hardened. In reality, the molds are pressed into the surface while the concrete is still wet. Using this technique, the number of designs you can put on your concrete surface is limitless. You can even give it the texture of other materials such as brick, cobblestone, granite, slate, tile, wood, leaves and even fossils, just to name a few.
Concrete stamping has several advantages over alternative construction material.
Cost - Generally speaking, concrete stamping will cost more than standard concrete but is less expensive than pavers or other materials. Since concrete can be textured to resemble different construction materials, you can still get the look of the desired material but with the price and durability of concrete. Another reason that concrete stamping costs less is because it is transported as a liquid and then poured on site.
Variety - Concrete stamping offers a limitless array of pattern, texture and color options that can be mixed and match to create your own unique design
Base color and release powder color - Generally, one color is chosen for the body of the stamped concrete and one other color is used to accent the body or to give it an antique look. The base color is usually lighter than the release powder color. Limiting the pallet to two colors will give the concrete a more natural look. Acid staining is another coloring process that gives your concrete a different look than the base and powder release colors.
Patterns - Hundreds of patterns are available, but we usually keep the most requested patterns on hand. These include brick, cobblestone, slate, random stone and textured skins. If you don’t see what you’re looking for in our inventory, we can special order it for you.
Borders – We can install a border around your stamped concrete structure. The installation will take more time and is a bit more costly but borders do give your concrete a clean, planned out look.
Low-Maintenance - The only maintenance stamped concrete needs is crack repair and to be resealed every now and again. The coating that seals out moisture and protects the concrete from wear will, itself, wear off every few years and therefore the concrete will need to be sealed again. Other materials require more frequent upkeep which may require sanding and weeding. With stamped concrete, you will not have to worry about weeds growing in the spaces between stones, tiles or bricks.
Versatility - Stamped concrete can be used for a variety of different purposes such as driveways, porches, patios, pool decks and indoor entryways. You can even use stamped concrete on the inside of your home where other materials such as brick or stone just would not work.
Ease of Installation - Installing stamped concrete only requires three steps: pouring, stamping and sealing. Other materials take longer to install because each piece must be laid down and the technician must make sure each piece is straight. It will also be necessary to cut and shape pieces that will be on the edges. Since concrete starts out as a liquid, it will naturally take on the shape of the form it is poured into.
Stamping on Existing SurfacesIf you want to add stamping to your driveway, for example, it is not necessary to demolish that driveway and pour a completely new one. An extra layer can be poured over your existing driveway and the stamping will be applied to that new layer before it hardens.
